Recently found this text on a bbc website. An Altoid(R) is an incredibly strong variety of peppermint, denoted as "curiously" strong by their manufacturers, Callard & Bowser(R). These mints are much stronger than typical mints; the secret of their strength lies in the use of real peppermint oil in the recipe. Smith & Co. came up with this ingenious concoction in 1780, while King George III ruled Great Britain. Smith & Co. eventually became enveloped by Callard & Bowser(R), an English candy company since 1837. They have been selling Altoids(R) to the public ever since(yum).
